Bacon District, Sorsogon City – A significant milestone in the healthcare sector was achieved today as the new Rural Health Unit (RHU) in Bacon District officially opened its doors. The inauguration ceremony was led by Mayor Ester E. Hamor, alongside Dr. Rolando Dealca, Dr. Karen Faye P. Nava-Garcia, Dr. Ruel Reynario L. Rebustillo, and other department heads of Sorsogon City LGU.
The newly established RHU aims to provide an array of high-quality healthcare services, including consultations, prenatal care, minor surgical procedures, laboratory tests, dental services, medication dispensing, and more.
This facility will also actively support Department of Health (DOH) initiatives focused on public and family health, ensuring better overall well-being for residents in the area.
In a statement during the opening, Mayor Hamor emphasized that this new RHU would be a major step toward enhancing healthcare accessibility in the district. “This facility is not just a healthcare center but a commitment to a healthier, safer community for everyone. We encourage all residents to make full use of the services available,” she said.
In line with this development, the Sorsogon City Health Office has highlighted several priority programs that will guide its healthcare efforts, including:
Maternal & Child Health & Nutrition – Aimed at reducing maternal and infant deaths and preventing stunting among children under five.
Non-Communicable Disease Prevention & Control – Focusing on promoting healthy behaviors and addressing mental health concerns.
Infectious Disease Prevention & Control – Prioritizing early detection and treatment.
Disaster Preparedness – Ensuring safe management of water, sanitation, and healthcare waste services during emergencies.
Pandemic Preparedness/Disease Surveillance – Strengthening the city’s response to public health threats.
Environmental Health & Related Diseases – Working to ensure every barangay achieves ZOD (Zero Open Defecation) certification.
OPD/Primary Healthcare Services – Making outpatient services more accessible, including establishing a Primary Care Provider (PCP) system for all citizens.
Violence & Injury Prevention – Promoting a community free from violence and injuries, including road traffic accidents and gender-based violence.
Health Human Resource Welfare – Focusing on improving the recruitment and development of healthcare workers.
Facility Enhancement & Equipping – Ensuring healthcare facilities comply with DOH standards and adopting digital health technologies.
Health Information & Reporting – Prioritizing complete, accurate, and timely health reporting.
Health Promotion – Ensuring that all citizens are health literate and that public policies support better health.
Vaccines & Medicine Supply – Ensuring continuous availability of medicines and vaccines, with efforts to enhance pharmaceutical supply chain efficiency.
