City Government Employees Undergo DRR Orientation and Basic Life Support Training

As part of the observance of National Disaster Resilience Month, designated personnel from all offices of the City Government of Sorsogon participated in the Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Orientation and Basic Life Support (BLS) Training conducted from July 21 to 23, 2026, at the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) and City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) Building.

The three-day training was spearheaded by the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) in coordination with the City Human Resource Management Office (CHRMO) pursuant to Republic Act No. 10121, or the Philippine Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Act of 2010. The activity aimed to strengthen the disaster preparedness of city government employees and equip them with essential life-saving skills that can be applied during emergencies in both the workplace and the community. Among the learning objectives were differentiating the three kinds of life support, describing the Unified Basic Life Support (BLS) Chain of Survival, and explaining the importance of the respiratory, circulatory, and nervous systems in relation to emergency response.

According to the organizers, the training forms part of the city’s continuing efforts to build a competent and resilient workforce capable of responding effectively during disasters and medical emergencies. Through lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises, participants gained knowledge and hands-on experience that will help improve emergency preparedness across various city government offices.

The conduct of the orientation and training highlights the City Government’s commitment to promoting a culture of safety and resilience among its employees. By continuously enhancing the capabilities of government personnel, the city ensures that emergency response measures are carried out efficiently while contributing to the protection and well-being of the public.

The City Government, through the CDRRMO and CHRMO, will continue implementing capacity-building programs and disaster preparedness initiatives to ensure that all employees remain equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to respond effectively to emergencies, reinforcing the city’s goal of creating a safer, more resilient, and disaster-ready Sorsogon City.
