Sorsogon City Joins 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED)

August 8, 2019- The loud and alarming sound of the ceremonial buzzer which rung at exactly 2:00 in the afternoon prompted the employees of the Local Government Unit of Sorsogon City to move out of the city hall building for the 3rd Quarter Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED).

Sounds of sirens from the firetrucks, ambulances and police cars echoed all over the area as the participants performed the “Duck, Cover and Hold” procedure.

The drill was performed to test the response readiness of the various agencies involved such as the Philippine National Police (PNP), Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Coast Guard, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology and the various emergency response teams of the different local government units of the province.

The NSED was spearheaded by the Regional Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council- Bicol (RDRRMC-Bicol) thru the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region V in partnership with the Provincial Government of Sorsogon and Sorsogon Provincial Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (SPDRRMO), and City Government of Sorsogon and the City Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Office (CDRRMO).

Claudio Yucot, Regional Director of OCD-V, gave a brief rundown of the proper responses everyone should take during an earthquake.

NSED is part of the OCD’s “Bida ang Handa” campaign that aims to promote disaster preparedness.
