DENR-PENRO Sorsogon, in partnership with LGU Sorsogon City, celebrated World Water Day on March 22, 2017 with a simple ceremony at the Pier Site and followed by a Clean-up Drive. at the back of the Sorsogon Pilot Elementary School and along the coastlines of the Pier Site.This was actively supported and participated by DENR-PENRO, LGU Sorsogon City, Government Owned and Controlled Corporations, Private Organizations, Business Establishments, Government Agencies, Fraternities, Barangay Officials, Transport Groups and Cooperatives.
With this year’s theme “Water and Wastewater”, the event encourages people to treat wastewater as a valuable resource through the use of recycled water in order to achieve the sustainable development goal and ensure availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. The ultimate goal is to decrease the proportion of untreated wastewater and to save water to benefit the present and future generations.
The cooperative efforts of the participants in the said Clean-Up Drive produced an estimated volume of 12 tons of unsegregated wastes collected, mostly non-biodegradables, plastics, styrofoams, tin cans and bottles. (T.Fortes)
