A 3-day write-shop was conducted on January 11-13, 2017 at the Fritz Homestay, Tugos, Sorsogon City, to come up with the Local Climate Change Action Plan (LCCAP) for the LGU. Members of the City Risk Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) drafted the Plan under the guidance of Professor Florito M. Dapena, the City Consultant.
The LCCAP, which is based on the LGU’s “Vulnerability Assessment & Adaptation” Study and PAGASA’s “Climate Change in the Philippines” Guidebook, outlines various initiatives and interventions of the LGU to address the four (4) climate variables which are: Temperature, Rainfall, Extreme Weather Events and Sea Level which is also the basis in dividing the participants into working groups. Moreover, the workshop enabled the participants to : 1) Understand the steps in the formulation of the LCCAP; 2) Understand Climate Change Vulnerability and Adaptation; 3) Gather data for LCCAP; and 4) Get acquainted with the LCCAP template.
The group presentations made possible productive interactions and inputs to the draft LCCAP which addresses the seven (7) Action Priorities of the National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP). These are as follows: 1) Food Security; 2) Knowledge and Capability Development; 3) Water Sufficiency; 4) Ecological and Environmental Stability; 5) Human Security; 6) Climate-Smart Interventions; and 7) Sustainable Energy.
The LCCAP will be finalized soonest in time for the submission of project proposals to be funded under the People’s Survival Fund (PSF). (T. Fortes)
